| Name Nadia Hunt AKA: Min |
| Species Don't really like to be pigeon holed, a mixture of graphic design, textile design, fashion, illustration and fine art. |
| Habitat At the moment back home in Auckland, New Zealand. |
| Special Markings As others say scratchy! A mixture of scratchy line drawings, clean simple lines and silhouettes. Either very uncomplicated, or at the other end of the scale, small chaotic little mazes which are quite dreamy. |
| Roost Nadia Hunt |
| Passion Art, fashion, film, photography, shopping, whisky, music, the beach, drawing, watching skateboard vids and more drawing! |
| Role model(s)Not so much role models,
but people I think everyone should go and check out as soon as they're finished
here! Michael Leon (Commonwealth Stacks), fantastic graphics! Thomas Campbell, the most inspiring beautiful paintings. Monster Children mag, a recent find, fantastic graphics and a great read. Tsubi the best clothes around! Lastly my all time favourite designer Geoff McFetridge, stunning design and illustration. |
| How did you get to where you are? I'm not there yet.... but it's all about drawing 24 hours a day, and a lot of hard work. Plus jobs with a magazine, a design studio, London fashion designer Maria Chen and doing lots of work for free! |
| How long have you been working in the design industry? About 5 years, I started working in the industry while I was still at art school. |
| Is it difficult to be a woman working in a male dominated industry like skateboard design? No not really, I think sometimes they're just surprised that a female is producing this style of work. I don't really think about that whole gender thing, I'm more concerned with trying to come up with great graphics and drawings. Skateboarder's attitudes towards things are a lot more free and easy. |
| Have you had many set backs because of your sex? Hmmmmm, yes a few, but that's life, not a big deal. |
You're an international freelancer? How does
that work? For the most part its great working on an International
basis, it gives you the chance to collaborate with lots of talented people.
The down side can be that a lot of your relationships are via email, which
can lead to mis-interpretation and sometimes being taken for a ride! |
What kind of projects/shows have you been involved in? I recently contributed to the Curvy / Yen exhibition. Have also been working on some illustrations for a magazine in the USA and have just finished some T Shirt designs for es and emerica. I'm currently working on some fabric ideas I have and thinking about doing a range of print driven bags for the fairer sex, watch this space..... I'm always on the look out for new things to do and new people to collaborate with. On that note a big thank you to the lovely nestcollective for the feature. |
